Magnetic Flux Leakage (MFL)

Magnetic Flux Leakage (MFL) is one of the oldest in-line inspection technology commercially available in the market since 1969.

The industry since then accepts it as being reliable, simple and sufficient to meet the basic requirements for pipeline inspection – to measure the common and the most typical pipeline anomalies reliably. Over the years several generations of the MFL systems have been subsequently developed involving significant improvement of their performance specifications.

All LIN SCAN MFL tools belong to the latest generation – “True High Resolution” systems.

We equip these tools with measurement systems based on the highest-effective resolution (both axial and circumferential) ensuring the best sizing accuracy within the natural limitations of MFL technology.

The range of anomalies detectable and sizeable by TrueHR MFL tools include general metal loss anomalies such as general and pitting corrosion as well as scratches, gouges, circumferential crack-like features and anomalies of girth welds along with limited capability detection and sizing of axially oriented anomalies.

LIN SCAN has an extensive record of successful application of this technology all over the globe and provides MFL services on pipelines with nominal diameters from 2” to 56”.

Any of our MFL inspection tool XYZ mapping unit can obtain both metal loss inspection and XYZ mapping data simultaneously during a single run. Both XYZ mapping and inspection data are synchronized.

Note: We designed all our inspection tools to meet or supersede the accuracy recommendations specified in “Specifications and requirements for intelligent pig inspection of pipelines” issued by POF (latest edition).
