Caliper (Geometry) Inspection

It is an industry common knowledge that a major threat to pipeline integrity is growth of corrosion, other metal loss and cracking anomalies.

Mechanical deformations can also cause accelerated growth of cracking; and corroded dents can be a serious threat to pipeline integrity that can hardly be estimated according to existing codes and practices. Also significant reductions of pipeline circular shape can negatively affect the flow of product and cause excessive consumption of power required for product transportation.

It is vitally important to locate such geometry deviations on any pipeline.

We provide geometry inspection services using caliper technology on all pipeline sizes of oil and gas industry supported by a large fleet of Caliper inspection tools.

These tools as any of LIN SCAN inspection can be optionally equipped with XYZ mapping units.

Moreover, caliper survey performed along with pipeline mapping is highly recommended for base line surveys as the perfect reference system for future inspection data synchronization and fitness-for-purpose assessments.

All LIN SCAN caliper tools use mechanical measurement arms being in direct contact with pipe wall and covering 360 of pipe circumference. Any deviation from ideal circular shape of the pipe will move the measurement arm and this will be digitally recorded by on-board computing unit.

LIN SCAN calipers are multichannel. This means that measurement arms are equipped with individual sensors independent from each other and each having a separate signal channel. Thus we can not only detect geometry anomalies and measure their depth but identify their shape and categorize them.

Note: All our inspection tools are designed to meet or supersede the accuracy recommendations specified in “Specifications and requirements for intelligent pig inspection of pipelines” issued by POF (latest edition).
