Velocity Control Unit

The velocity of any inspection tool is a crucial technical parameter affecting the quality of inspection. Exceeding the velocity limitation or motion surges during the inspection run may lead to a failure or inspection data quality downgrade.

Due to this reason the operating conditions of gas pipelines may be challenging for an inline inspection. For instance decreasing the operating pressure in gas transmission line due to increased consumption may lead to a higher gas velocity.

Thus the inline inspection service providers faced the challenge of controlling the tool velocity in gas lines.

LIN SCAN developed Velocity Control Unit to ensure the velocity of the inspection tool does not exceed the operating limitations regardless of the actual flow velocity in the pipeline.
VCU can be installed on any inspection tool. The unit is actually an electronically controlled motor-operated by-pass valve gradually opening when the tool velocity reaches the critical value and closing in case the velocity is reduced.

It is important that our Velocity Control Unit is re-active to velocity changes in on-line mode. Thus we can ensure that our inspection tools preserve their velocity within acceptable limits at all times during the run.

VCU can be used also in liquid environment.

High product velocity is no longer an issue for in-line inspection.
